Crook Cemetery is located in Rockford Township in the SW corner of the SW 1/4 of SE 1/4, Section 23, and NW corner of NW 1/4 of NE 1/4, Section 26. Land owners around this area in 1885 were Folsom Heirs and McMillen Heirs. Rockford Township was listed as the owner of the cemetery on January 1, 1921.
To find this small cemetery, go north of Honey Creek on Highway 183 about a mile. There is a sign on the east side for “Spencer’s Mountain” housing development. Turn right then turn right again onto the grass near a utility box. After the utility box, turn left up into the field. The cemetery is at the top of the hill on your right. Without a four-wheel-drive vehicle, you will not be able to drive up to the cemetery. You’ll have to park at the bottom and hike up to the cemetery. It is a steep grade and not for the faint of heart. Since the paved road was put in, all other access has been cut off. The cemetery is not maintained and completely overgrown.
It was read May 19, 2002 by Joyce Hickman and Vicki King. The rows were read west to east, north to south. There are approximately 27 graves in the timber at the upper-left-hand corner of the cemetery. Those graves were read (with difficulty) west to east, south to north. There are seventy-two marked graves in this cemetery, but the majority are marked with stones only, no engraving to know who lies there.
